ACR Roofing were engaged to complete a roof replacement project with a metal and asbestos roof on a Hindu temple in a quiet leafy street in beautiful Camberwell. This calm and serene place for worship had been idle in presentation for far too long, the asbestos roof sheeting had becoming brittle and over exposed to all elements of seasonal weather.
You can see from the images below that this roof is quite steep in pitch. This makes the replacement of this asbestos roof much more demanding than that of a flat roof design. It is difficult to stand on the roof without slipping so we use roof ladders to move around the roof safely.
Before we started the asbestos removal and roof replacement, we installed safety rails. On this occasion we asked Lock Up Scaffolding to install a perimeter edge protection so that our workers were safe. Once installed, we were able to crane lift our materials into position to commence and safely complete the metal sheeting and asbestos removal prior to the installation of the new Colorbond sheeting. As always, we installed a heavy duty insulation blanket to the underside of the roof as made good with approved metal Colorbond flashings to make watertight.
The entirety of the asbestos removal was completed on either a Saturday and Sunday, as the neighbouring property was a Kindergarten school, we and our client felt that it is best suited to out of hours asbestos removal works. All the old metal roofing was replaced using BlueScope Colorbond Deck roofing, and BlueScope Corrugated for the asbestos roofing sections. The choice of Colorbond colour on this is Terrain – a rich, rusty red colour reminiscent of Australia’s famed Outback Terrain® possesses inherent warmth that lends it instant authenticity and honesty.
